[Athi River, May 16, 2025] Dr. Muhia Karianjahi, the Director of Outdoor and Adventure Leadership program at Wheaton College, USA, spent five days at Daystar University Main Campus Athi River from May 12 -16, 2025 to experience the Orientation program for freshmen.

Dr. Karianjahi oversees the Honey Rock Camp, which partly hosts The Passage, Wheaton’s orientation program.  All Wheaton College students are required to go through The Passage by choosing one activity to be involved in, as part of the orientation program.

The visit was pursuant to a collaboration between Daystar University Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro, and the President of Wheaton College Dr. Phil Ryken.  Dr. Ryken is expected to visit Daystar University in July as part of the partnership development.

Dr. Karianjahi was particularly impressed by how Daystar University students took charge of the orientation program. He, however, noted that the Daystar orientation program is more administrative than it is experiential, and advised that Daystar should consider incorporating community and skill-based activities in order to make it more fun and enable students to navigate their academic journey.

Dr. Karianjahi is a long time friend of Daystar University,  with his first involvement dating back almost 30 years ago when he first took a short course at the then Institute of Christian Ministries and Training, ICMT, (now DLPDI), in 1996. He later took several other short courses at Daystar University.

Speaking to the Infospot, Dr. Karianjahi revealed that back then he worked with Rev. Tim Fairman, pioneer of the Doulos ministry and the establishment of the Freedom Base Camp at Daystar University Main Campus Athi River. Dr. Karianjahi was therefore part of the team that set up the Freedom Base where Doulos carries out teambuilding activities.

He joined Wheaton College in 2013 to run the Honey Rock Center for leadership and development camp.  Over the years, Dr. Karianjahi kept in touch with Daystar University's Sports Officer, Mr. Maurice Masiga, as they discussed how they could work together since their missions were similar.

Speaking to the Infospot, Mr. Maurice Masiga expressed excitement about Dr. Karianjahi’s visit, revealing that both were part of establishing the African Christian Camping Association, of which Doulos is a member.

“I look forward to seeing how the relationship between Honey Rock Camp and Doulos will grow,” said Mr. Masiga.
